A multi-generational love.

Going Thing Productions is the result of three generations of musicians working in audio production. From the era of 1950s advertising to now, the passion for music and audio work has been an integral part of our lives in every generation.

Ethan Tarner (Owner, Senior Engineer) is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer living in Charlotte, NC. His love for music was innate from the very beginning, and he began his music education on guitar at the age of five. Since then, he has grown to teach himself to play a multitude of instruments.

Growing up witnessing the work and art of music and recording through his father, he took that experience and began growing his craft by running a private recording studio in his house. Now, he has turned his lifelong passion and exposure to the world of music and recording into this business, carrying the torch from his father and grandfather before him.

His love for music and recording is shown in his work with many of Charlotte’s local artists, and professionally with several major networks and institutions. His pursuit of making a name in the recording industry isn’t merely a professional endeavor, it is the embodiment of a lifelong pursuit towards his passion and purpose.

Going Thing Productions aims to provide an essential service to those in the music and media production industries that exceeds expectations. It is our love for the art of sound that drives us forward. No matter your needs or creative goals, we are certain that we can provide an unparalleled experience, and are eager to share in your passion and dedication for your work.

  • "The mark of a good engineer is good engineering, the mark of a great engineer is good engineering AND how attentive towards and how willing they are to work with an artist. We hear this everywhere in the field but do not see it embodied as often as we should. Enter Ethan Tarner. You will be hard pressed to find another engineer that's more genuine and easy to work with. Every single interaction I've had with him has been respectful and focused. I cannot recommend him enough."

  • "Ethan is great to work with. He is always patient and willing to go the extra mile to achieve a greater result. Every time I’ve worked with Ethan he has always had an idea to brighten the idea I was trying to bring to life."

Jeremiah Kingston (Musician - Charlotte, NC)

  • "Ethan's audio work speaks for itself, but what was most impressive to me was his clear and timely communication, professionalism, and most notably, his willingness to educate. As a novice composer with very little production knowledge, I asked Ethan if he would be able to help me understand what he was doing and why. He went above and beyond and made me a video explaining the various aspects of his mixing choices and why he made them."
